Hughie Gavin

Hughie Gavin is an award-winning choral arranger, composer, and producer based in the UK.

His recent work includes a collaboration with Vince Pope on the Emmy nominated song ‘No Use’ used in HBO’s True Detective. His composition work has included global campaigns for WWF and Audi, commissions for the 2019 Turner Prize, and multiple choral collaborations on Silent Witness, You & Me, as well as releases on Universal Records, Ninja Tune, City Slang, Sub Pop, Moshi Moshi Records.

From his Margate-based studio, he directs the professional vocal ensemble ‘Institute Collective’, and ‘The Social Singing Choir’

Biography

Hughie Gavin is an award-winning composer, arranger, producer and musical director based in Margate. His recent work includes a collaboration with Vince Pope on the Emmy nominated song ‘No Use’ used in HBO’s True Detective and campaigns for WWF, Lenor and Audi. His composition work has included commissions for the 2019 Turner Prize as well as multiple choral collaborations Universal Records, Ninja Tune, City Slang, Sub Pop, Moshi Moshi Records, as well as sound artist Yuri Suzuki and was the musical director on the 2019 Christmas advertising campaign for very.com. 

From Institute Studios in Margate he leads both a contemporary vocal ensemble Institute Collective and The Social Singing Choir.

Born into a musical family, Hughie’s father is internationally acclaimed opera singer Julian Gavin. He first studied music under his grandmother, composer Val Gavin and was later classically trained as a choral scholar at the London Oratory School. As a songwriter he has worked extensively throughout Europe with international artists. Aside from his successful career as a writer, his unique voice also makes him in demand as a featured vocalist. His version of I Could Have Danced All Night was used on the global 2020 Audi advertising campaign. As a vocalist and vocal director, he has also contributed to soundtracks including BBC’s ‘Silent Witness’ and ITV’s You & Me. From his studio, he directed and lead the Institute Collective, recording the choral parts for HBO’s True Detective
